Idea

Contemporary architectural practice has an international dimension, both in globalizing world and the borderless European Union. English became the global “lingua franca”. Since 2013 the Diploma of Architecture from the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University is officially recognized in all EU Countries. Earning master’s degree in architecture can allow our graduates to pursue a fascinating and prosperous lifetime career.

Programme

This postgraduate, secondary level of study has a design-oriented program, which focuses on the practice of architecture, urban planning, environmental construction problems, sustainable buildings, and computer-aided design techniques, including 3D CAD and Digital Prefabrication Courses. Emphasis is also put on architectural history and theory. Krakow, the beautiful old city, the former capital of Poland, now a center of business, tourism and education, will serve as an active learning environment for students.

The postgraduate Master’s Program in Architecture (MSc) takes 1.5 year. Program comprises 90 ECTS points, spread over three modules (semesters).
The first academic semester (Spring) usually lasts from the beginning of March to the end of June. The fall semester starts on 1st October and lasts through mid-February.
After the first semester, during the summer break, in July, a two-week study tour will be organized. Students and guiding tutors will visit the most important Polish towns, focusing on historical architecture as well as the best examples of modern architecture. Special attention will be given to cultural buildings. Students will participate in concerts, musical and sport events, visit museums and libraries. The third semester (Spring) will focus on the final dissertation and a diploma project.

Design Studios

Teaching major subjects, especially in the field of architectural design and urban planning is done in the master classes (Design Studios) conducted by distinguished architects – practitioners with significant achievements. The essence of the master classes system is to create a close, personalized relationship between the teacher and the student, to encourage personal development and creative individuality and emphasise the individual character of curriculum. Admission to the Master’s Program in Architecture will be provided for a group of 30 to 45 (maximum) students. They will be working in three groups (elective Design Studios).

Artur JASIŃSKI, studio 3B
Principal of Artur Jasiński and Partners architectural office and a professor at the Department of Architecture and Fine Arts of Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University. He was awarded over twenty prizes and mentions in architectural competitions, he is also the author of many public buildings and offices. His research and publications focus on the impact of contemporary modernization and globalization processes on urbanism, architecture, and professional practice.

Romuald LOEGLER, studio 3C
Principal of Atelier Loegler, author of outstanding buildings including Opera in Kraków, Philharmonic in Lódź, and The Gate of the World of the Death/Brama do świata zmarłych in Kraków. Apart from practicing architecture, Loegler is active as an animator of architectural life – in 1985 he created the Architecture Biennale in Kraków, in the years 1985-1991 he acted as editor-in-chief of the magazine Architect, and since 1992, he has been the chief editor of the publishing house RAM, which publishes the monthly Architektura i Biznes. Laureate of the Honorable Prize of Association of Polish Architects in 1994.

Krzysztof  INGARDEN, Dean of Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts
Graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of Kraków Technical University (PK) in 1982, doctorate in 1987. Holder of a doctoral internship at School of Art & Design, University of Tsukuba, Japan, in 1983–1985. In 1984–1985, worked at the atelier of Arata Isozaki in Tokyo, in 1987 – at J.S.Polshek & Partners in New York. Co-founder of JET Atelier (1991–2009) and Ingarden & Ewý Architekci (from 1998) managed together with Jacek Ewý. Since 2003, has lectured at the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts of Kraków College (KAFM) and was its Deputy Dean in 2003-2011, since 2010 foreign examiner at the Faculty of Architecture at Dundee University (UK). Since 2002, the Honorary Consul of Japan in Kraków.
His major Works include: ICE Conference Center in Kraków, Garden of Art in Kraków, Polish Pavillion on EXPO 2005 in Aichi, Japan and Polish Embassy in Tokyo, Japan.

To become a student of ARCHITECTURE take the following steps:

Step 1:
Fill in the registration form on the University website: RECRUITMENT IS CLOSED.
Step 2:
Effect the payment of the Recruitment Fee – PLN 85.00 (100 PLN is paid by those candidates who take the English language examination confirming their B2 level knowledge)
Step 3:
Submit the following documents to the Admissions Office:
a) a filled-in registration form, printed out, and duly signed off
b) a certified copy of the B.Sc.(Arch.) diploma in Architecture or Architecture and Urban Planning, in conjunction with a supplement (original document must be available for reference), or a notarised copy
c) ID card or passport (foreigners) – with the original document to be presented upon request; notarized copy in case of using the power of attorney; in the case of a foreign national – a birth certificate enclosed with a certified translation into Polish (original document must be available for reference)
d) a proof of payment of the Recruitment Fee
e) one (1) full-colour photograph (35 x 45 mm, made against a uniform, light background, of good resolution, effectively imitating a natural skin tone, covering the area from the top of the head to the upper part of the shoulders, so that the face occupies 70% – 80% of the picture, clearly showing the eyes, especially the pupils and the eyebrows, facing directly the camera lens, without any headgear or sun glasses, with the eyes wide open, looking straight ahead, unobscured by any hair).
f) A Portfolio in English containing illustrated documentation of the B.Sc. (Arch.) course of studies in Architecture, inclusive of small to large-scale course assignments. The material should be structured so as to reflect the successive years of studies; each individual project assignment file accompanied with a brief description.

Your additional artistic works (i.e. other than those originating throughout the B.Sc. studies) may be presented within a Portfolio enclosed with a written description of its contents, and the graduation year duly indicated. The Portfolio is to comprise the individual works, even though it may also be inclusive of the co-authored teamwork projects, provided that all the materials that are not your individually contributed work are clearly marked accordingly, whereas every individual contribution into a particular project is described in sufficient detail.

The Portfolio should be submitted in an electronic version on a CD as a single PDF file, with all pages in a horizontal orientation, designed and formatted for display on the screen (avoid double spacing). The Portfolio is to be comprised of up to 20 pages of A3 format. The max. admissible size of a PDF file is 15 MB. The Portfolio should contain a title page with your name and surname. Please also place your name and surname at the bottom of every page.

g) a letter of reference from an academic teacher from the University from which you had graduated (i.e. your B.Sc. degree in Architecture) or where you still pursue your B.Sc. studies, containing contact details of your referee: name, surname, position at the University, and a phone number. The letter of reference written in any other language than Polish or English should be enclosed with a certified translation into Polish.
h) Curriculum Vitae in English.
The confirmation slip confirming an effective submission of the above-referenced documents shall comprise information as to when you may expect the recruitment decision to be ready for receipt.
Step 4:
Document your command of English in one of the following ways:
a) entrance examination The examinations shall be held on the University’s premises (on the dates appointed by the University), and at the AFM-authorized examination centres in Ukraine.
b) a pertinent language certificate list
c) a diploma attesting to:
– graduation from the Dept. of English or Applied Linguistics
– graduation from a foreign language teacher training college
– completion of academic education abroad – with English as the official language of instruction
Applicants, who meet one of the following requirements, are exempt from the verifying examination:
– he/she passed a language examination from English not lower than B2 level in the course of University education
– he/she completed a University with English as a language of instruction, examinations as well as a language of getting credits.
Step 5:
Please collect the decision on the outcome of the recruitment process from the Admissions Office within the appointed time frame.
Step 6:
Within 7 days of receipt of the above-referenced decision, please sign off in the Admissions Office:
a) a written Declaration of Participation in the Project
b) a Participation Agreement in the Project
c) a statement on the processing of the Project’s participant personal data, in compliance with the requirements of the Knowledge Education Development 2014-2020 Operational Programme.

Step 7:
Within 7 days of signing off the above-referenced Agreement, pay a refundable deposit of PLN 2,000.00. The deposit shall be refunded to you when you complete your course of studies within the appointed time-frame, in compliance with pertinent syllabus.
